Top Three Strategies to Find Good Internship

Strategy No.1: Networking

Networking has been statistically proven to be one of the most effective job search strategies there is, so why not use it to find an internship?

Networking means letting everyone you know, including: family, friends, faculty, previous employers and teachers, social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, Friendster that you are looking for an internship.

Visit your Career Services Office at your college to tap into their resources and suggestions on successful networking techniques. On the other side you may join online career services that offer free membership. Increase your network by contacting professionals currently working in your field of interest, such as alumni at your college.

Schedule informational interviews with your network to gather information and discuss your interests in finding an internship.

Strategy No.2: Discover Internship Listings on Company Websites or on Internet

Visit your Career Services Office to find out more about what they have to offer. CSO’s maintain a number of databases for finding internships and can provide passwords for sites they subscribe to.

Many companies include internships on the career or employment sections of their website. Check out the career or employment section of an employers’ website to see if they do offer internships and what types of internships they offer. Many large corporations offer a variety of internships in areas, such as: finance, marketing, advertising, accounting, public relations, journalism, human resources, etc.

Select a number of different internships and be sure to follow the application instructions precisely.

Keep applying to internships of interest as you find them until you have received a definite internship offer. Students will often think that once they have applied to two or three internships they can sit back and wait until they receive an offer. The truth is that much internship is very competitive and until you hear back from an employer – don’t assume that you will be accepted. Be proactive by continuing to apply to new internships as you find them. So be pro active guys!

Strategy No.3: Contact Your Trusted Internship Agency

By contacting your trusted agency will really optimize your time and searching since they already have extensive list of companies that offer internship in certain period. You will have more option and you may select the option available to meet your preference. However you need to find out the reputation of the agency first whether the agency really deliver good promised services or not.

You may find its reputation on internet by searching some feedback from Google; ask the previous trainee contact detail to get their testimonial about the services and finding internship through that agency. So which method that might be matches with your objective? Well the decision would be in your hand. I look forward to see you online.

Combro Party on Weekend

Everyone love weekend more over if we have special event like date, diner in special place, or party. I love weekend too, and I can even say that weekend is something like an independence day where we can have fun and really refresh our mind after got crazy days during the weekdays.

Friday morning a student, Soren came to me and informed me that he would like to conduct party with the other Dutch students. He also informed me that the party is different since some colleagues would come in that party. I said: “okay ..i would come…” I directly informed my colleague Kurniawan to join this party as well.

Saturday night came eventually: In short I came to student house and really wonder, did I come to the wrong place since that was very quite and peaceful like a Dutch cemetery that I always pass every morning before I get the work in office. Finally, two ladies. Karlijn and Lydia came and screamed on me…..followed by the other guys, Tom and Soren..they said: “Welcome to the party and congratulation ….you are the first guest in this party..”. “ Wow..thank you”: I said (and still wonder + surprised but okay great too so I am really punctual in time). As the first gues, I have the right to try all food …hahaha…this is my favorite; I tried pancake, “international combro” for international readers please contact the nearest native speaker close to your residence.

BTW…i am starving enough so need to finish my lunch first before I continue the story; In the mean time you may enjoy the following picture I created from the party:

Sorry guys this is a natural thing but you may enjoy your food too above he... he... he...

Weekend at Bogor Botanical Gardens

Weekend, it is a nice time for almost of us. Since we can do our hobbies, travel or just spend the time in the city by visiting shopping mall.

Visit the Bogor Botanical Gardens is one of the options to spend the weekend in Indonesia. Bogor Botanical Gardens are located around 60 km south of the capital of Jakarta in Bogor, Indonesia. This is situated in the center of Bogor and ad joins the Istana Bogor (Presidential Palace). This garden covers more than 80 hectares and are said to be the inspiration of Sir Stamford Raffles who was governor of Java from 1811-1816.

The extensive grounds of the Istana Bogor were converted into the gardens by the German-born Dutch botanist, Professor casper George Carl Reinwards. The gardens officially opened in 1817 as Lands Plantentuin (Natioanl Botanical Garden) and were used to research and develop plants and seeds from other parts of the Indonesian archipelago for cultivation during the 19th century. This is a tradition that continues today and contributes to the gardens’ reputation as a major center for Botanical Research.

BTW, during your visit at this garden you will find more than 15,000 species of tress and plants located among streams and lotus ponds. There are 400 types of exceptional palms to be found along the extensive lawns and avenues, helping the gardens create a refuge for more than 50 different varieties of birds groups of bats roosting high in the trees.

One important point, please make sure that you visit the information center first and get the layout of garden first so that you can appoint your destination place instead of walking around the garden only. By doing this you will optimize your visit time at Bogor Botanical Garden very well.

For students in Jakarta based, it will be perfect place to visit and could really refresh your mind since normally we face very busy situation in Jakarta everyday. (Hey...don't believe me unless you try to visit it on next weekend!).

Let's Visit Indonesia

Indonesia is secure and very conducive to be visited. Indonesian government has national program "Visit Indonesia Year 2008" there fore they will make sure the level of security in Indonesia to attract more foreign people to visit Indonesia.

Regarding English, English is a foreign language here in Indonesia instead of second language but it does not mean that very difficult to find people to speak English here (in company). Therefore most of people especially in Supervisor level and above in company (national and multinational company) are able to speak English, and even some taxi driver in Jakarta could speak basic English. The foreign students here could conduct their traineeship well, if they interested in studying local language, Bahasa, they can join a local course with English speaking teachers.

If you are interested in holding your traineeship in huge company the option would be in Jakarta; Jakarta is very busy city since this is very business city in Indonesia; traffic jams is a common there. Here the official website of Jakarta: http://www.jakarta.go.id/en/ available in Bahasa, English and German.

The other option is Semarang, Semarang is quite peace city and less traffic but in Semarang also available quite a lot of company that dealing with international business. Please visit the following link to get to know more about Semarang: http://www.semarang.nl/index.html the information is available in Bahasa and Dutch. The other reference that might be useful for you too is the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_Indonesia. So after you completed your resume and your motivation letter; why don't you submit your internship application and eady to have fantastic experience in Indonesia? Hopefully could see you here in Indonesia!

Prepare Your best English Resume and Motivation Letter

Start your effort by writing down your detailed information as well as your supporting information clearly. Writing a clear internship objective or assignments proposed is a must so that company will see what actually your internship objective. This is easier for company to provide good assignments for you since you have stated your working are clearly.

Make sure that you put all of your professional skill on your Resume; beside this your professional experience is useful too. But you should remember if you would like to apply for engineering assignments internship; your previous professional experience in engineering fields would be very helpful and valuable in front of employer's (traineeship providing company) point a view. If you would like to put your recent photo, please make sure that you are wearing suit or business cloth so that you will appear more professional; however the reality of your performance is would be more important but at least by submitting good and representative recent photo, company will think twice to remove your application into the trash.

On the other side, I saw some students would like apply engineering assignments but they put sales or food supplier as their professional experience support; unfortunately it does not help much. My point is you should put the relevant previous professional experience on your resume.

Another important point is language skill; if you would like to hold internship abroad, Fluent in English is a must beside your mother tongue; however if you are able in multiple language that would be very perfect selling point.

Before I end this content, please do not forget to monitor your email and make sure your mobile phone is ON in your hand so you would be easy to be reached by your company. Please pick up their incoming call with your best greeting! This is the minimal requirement for best resume and motivation letter actually; so at least the information mentioned above should be stated on your resume and motivation letter. Thank you!

Prepare Your Future Carrier with Internship Abroad

There are a lot of articles that explain the benefit of holding internship abroad on internet; developing multicultural communication and problem solving skills, improve your language skills, improve your professional skill that you would not be able to gain at your country of origin, enhance your resume and build your international relationship that might be helpful so much for your future carrier.

Well, you already understood benefits that you will after your internship period. But the next question is how to make it come true since you do not know from where you should start. By contact your international relation at your school is the easiest way that you can do since they normally have extensive list business partners as traineeship providing company. Beside this you can also find the vacancies through search engines Google, Yahoo, AltaVista or the other famous search engines that you could find easily on internet; this “smart engines” will help you so much to provide the relevant data regarding the vacancies available on company that you.

As soon as you get vacancies that suit your internship objective you may start to contact them and forwarding your profile detail. You may contact them either by telephone and e-mail. But I highly recommend you to contact the company by email since through this way you could also test whether the company that you contact is familiar with emails or not. Another reason is more economical then by phone.

Professional resume and detailed motivation latter is the next step that you need to prepare for further process. These documents represent your self; there fore please make sure that you are really understood what you are wring there. Even though you are very smart students in your class and even a star; but your manner in written communication will be tested on this step since before company call you or provide positive response they will study your documents first.

During my experience I have found quite a lot of students underestimate in creating these documents. There fore, I often remind them to revise and provide better resume and motivation letter. Otherwise less company interested in their profiles since these documents are their front office that really sell and promote their self toward the traineeship providing company.

Now, I am sure you already understand how important resume and motivation letter and how you contact the traineeship providing company. Please try to make a lot of contact and see the result! Please provide me your feedback and comment below. Thank you!
